Nashville Coaches Spotlight Team Leaders, Key Matchups at Rotary Meeting

Nashville High School soccer head coaches Ahren Turner and Clarissa Rizzo addressed the Nashville Rotary Club this week, where they introduced their senior team captains and discussed the upcoming season.

Turner said the Scrapper soccer program currently includes 50 players. He praised the senior captains for their leadership, noting they have been part of the program since their freshman year and are now helping mentor younger teammates on what it takes to succeed.

Turner also highlighted the team’s strong start to the season but pointed to Tuesday’s matchup against De Queen as a key game. He said the Scrappers are especially motivated because the program has never defeated the Leopards.

Looking ahead, Turner said the team will compete in the Clarksville Tournament on Friday and Saturday, where they will face some of the top teams in the state. He noted that only three other Class 4A teams will be in the field — De Queen, Hope and Greene County Tech.

Rizzo told Rotary members that soccer players typically run between three and six miles during a game. She said the Scrapperettes are already showing improvement after a difficult season last year, opening the new campaign with a 2–1 record.

The Scrappers and Scrapperettes will open conference play Tuesday, March 17, when they host De Queen at Scrapper Stadium.
