Parks Commission Discusses Resignation, Upcoming Events, and Park Improvements

The Nashville Parks and Recreation Commission met Tuesday for their regular monthly meeting, addressing board membership changes, upcoming community events, and ongoing park improvement projects.
During the meeting, Parks Director Meghan Floyd announced that commission member Vivian Wright submitted her resignation, effective March 14. In her letter, Wright recommended that Latasha Flowers be considered to fill the remainder of her term and provided contact information for her. Commissioners said they will review the recommendation and make a decision at a later time.
Floyd also shared several upcoming events, including the annual baseball jamboree scheduled for Saturday March 21, which will feature 6U, 8U, 10U, and 12U teams. She added that Easter in the Park is set for April 4 at 10 a.m. at the baseball complex.
In addition, Meghan Floyd reported that she and Mayor Larry Dunaway recently met with engineer Trey Foster to discuss the park’s master plan. Foster is currently compiling the necessary information, which Floyd said will be used to present a draft plan to the Nashville City Council.
Floyd also announced that Tyson Foods has committed to donating $100,000 toward the park’s turf project. She said meetings with additional sponsors are underway to finalize contributions before seeking city council approval and moving forward with a contract. The goal is to begin construction this summer following the conclusion of league baseball season.
