Nashville Mayor reviews recent city council meeting

The Nashville City Council met Monday afternoon for its regular monthly session.
During the meeting, council members reviewed the city’s financial report. Mayor Larry Dunaway said funds generated from the recent water and sewer rate increase are being placed into a dedicated account to help repay a $12 million loan. He noted the account currently holds about $600,000 and asked the council to approve moving a portion of those funds into a short-term certificate of deposit. The CD is expected to earn roughly 4 percent interest, compared to about 2 percent for the current account.
The city park continues efforts to secure funding for a turf project at its four baseball fields. However, Dunaway said additional parking is also needed. He reported that Dr. John Hearnsberger has donated approximately four acres of land to the park, which is now being cleared for use as a new parking area to support both the baseball and soccer complexes.
Dunaway also provided updates on several infrastructure projects now getting underway, including improvements to water and sewer systems, as well as sidewalk construction.
In other business, Dunaway announced the resignation of Alderman Vivian Wright. Wright served the City of Nashville for more than 25 years and is relocating to Little Rock to be closer to family.
The next Nashville City Council meeting is scheduled for April 27th at noon in the council chamber at City Hall.
