Howard County Quorum Court Approves Key Policies and Budget Measures

The Howard County Quorum Court held their regular monthly meeting yesterday, where several significant decisions were made affecting county operations and employee policies.

During the session, Justices of the Peace (JPs) passed a motion to establish a new policy aimed at ensuring a drug-free workplace. This policy is designed to enhance the safety and well-being of both employees and the public while maintaining operational efficiency and productivity.

In addition, the JPs approved an ordinance that addresses employment considerations for medical marijuana patients within Howard County. This policy outlines the guidelines and accommodations for individuals who are medical marijuana patients, balancing their needs with workplace standards.

Another major decision was the adoption of the 2024 Howard County Operating Budget. This budget outlines the county’s financial plan and priorities for the upcoming year.

Treasurer Sherri Mixon updated the quorum on financial matters, noting that the county is in the process of managing its certificates of deposit (CDs). She reported that sales tax revenues are stable and highlighted that the District Court Fines contributed $15,284.05 in revenue for the month of July.

In a final move, the board approved the reappointment of Dr. Karla Pumphrey and Tem Gunter to the Howard Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, ensuring continuity in the hospital’s governance.
