Mineral Springs Council Discusses Economic Development Funds, Receives First Tax Installment

The Mineral Springs City Council met Monday for their regular monthly session, with economic development funding among the key topics discussed.
Financial Secretary Stephanie Harrison addressed the council on behalf of Director of Economic Development Vanessa Weeks, presenting information from a letter regarding the allocation of Mineral Springs’ share of the countywide economic development sales tax.
During her remarks, Harrison announced the city has received their first installment of funding, totaling $13,396.
Harrison also told council members that Howard County Judge Brent Pinkerton had explained why the initial amount was lower than expected. She provided a comparison for the council to review as part of the discussion.
In her letter, Weeks emphasized that the department’s focus has been on positioning Howard County to compete, respond, and succeed in attracting opportunities. She noted that those efforts are already producing measurable results.
Weeks also stated that local leaders are continuing to prepare for future growth and development, ensuring the county is ready for upcoming opportunities.
The council took no immediate action but acknowledged the update as part of ongoing economic development efforts in the region.
