South Pike School Board Approves Staffing Changes, Sets Graduation Date

The South Pike County School Board recently held their regular monthly meeting, addressing personnel matters, upcoming events, and district business.
Board members unanimously approved the hiring of certified and classified staff as presented. They also accepted several personnel changes, including the retirement of Linda Anderson and the resignation of Dana Taylor effective May 5, 2026, along with Buddy Ray, Blevin Boyd, and Ladonna Ashbrooks at the end of the school year.
The board also approved hiring Hadley Cox, Reese Kizzia, and Isaac Kuykendall as student workers for the summer.
Superintendent Tanya Wilcher provided an update on upcoming events, noting that graduation is scheduled for May 12 at 6:30 p.m., with the last day for seniors set for May 5. She also highlighted several athletic events, including the district softball tournament beginning April 27 and regional baseball and softball tournaments scheduled for May 7–9. The state track meet will take place May 6 in Quitman.
In additional business, the board approved the appointment of Sharon Kennedy to Zone 3 and accepted a lease agreement with Midwest Buses for four buses over the next five years. Members also approved updates to the district’s salary schedule, ESSA and IDEA assurances for the 2026–27 school year, and a resolution to utilize federal recreational trails program funds if a grant is awarded.
The next South Pike County School Board meeting is scheduled for May 19.
