Howard County Firefighters Honored for Life-Saving Actions

Two Howard County firefighters were recognized Saturday night for their heroic efforts during a life-saving rescue incident that occurred last month.
According to Howard County Judge Brent Pinkerton, State Representative Dolly Henley presented citations from the Arkansas House of Representatives during the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fundraiser to Center Point Fire Chief Alan Green and County Line firefighter Lavon Hostetler.
The statewide recognition honored the pair for their actions in responding to an emergency involving carbon monoxide poisoning. Both men also serve as first responders for their departments.
Judge Pinkerton said the two people rescued were members of his own family. He explained that Hostetler and Chief Green were the first responders to arrive on scene and found both victims unconscious inside a shop building.
According to Pinkerton, the two firefighters quickly recognized the signs of carbon monoxide poisoning and removed the victims from the building before beginning immediate treatment.
Pinkerton credited the fast response from the firefighters, along with continued care from Pafford Medical Services and staff at Howard Memorial Hospital, for helping save the lives of both family members.
He said both victims made a complete recovery with no lingering effects from the exposure.
Pinkerton also thanked Representative Henley and State Representative John Maddox for helping secure the citations and recognizing positive efforts within Howard County.
Pinkerton encouraged residents to continue supporting local fire departments and first responders by paying membership dues and attending department fundraisers.
“These volunteers make Howard County a better place to live,” Pinkerton wrote.
