Parks Commission Discusses Policy Changes Following Incident at Youth Baseball Game

The Nashville Parks and Recreation Commission held its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, where commissioners discussed possible policy changes following an altercation that occurred during a youth baseball game earlier this month.
According to Parks Director Meghan Floyd, the incident took place Monday, May 18, during a 10U baseball game at the park that involved two individuals from Murfreesboro. Floyd provided statements regarding the situation from both herself and park employee Andrew Hawthorne III.
Floyd also stated that the two individuals involved have been informed that they are no longer allowed to attend any park activities.
Following discussion, commissioners approved a motion stating that additional action is expected to be taken once all commission members are present to review the matter.
In other business, Floyd announced several upcoming sports registration deadlines for youth programs at the park. Soccer registration is currently open through July 12, while flag football registration will remain open until September 9.
Floyd also reported that registration for pre-kindergarten through second-grade basketball will open September 1 and continue through October 14. Registration for third through sixth-grade basketball will run from November 1 through December 16.
Additionally, Floyd informed commissioners that the Nashville City Council recently approved an ordinance allowing the park to move forward with the grant application process for the turf project currently being pursued by the department.
