South Pike School Board Hears Academic Updates, Approves Contracts and Improvements

The South Pike County School District held their regular monthly meeting earlier this week, where board members heard updates on academics, facilities, and upcoming projects across the district.
During her superintendent’s report, Tanya Wilcher announced that the district plans to sell iPads to the public next week for $220 each. Wilcher also reported that the baseball and softball complex payout was completed this week, while drainage repairs are still needed at the football field and the district will begin seeking bids for the project.
The Murfreesboro High School academic report was presented on behalf of Coach Davey Jones. Jones reported testing ran smoothly with only minor disruptions, while observations showed strong student engagement and preparedness. Official state assessment results are expected later this summer and will be used to help guide planning for the upcoming school year.
The Murfreesboro Elementary School academic report was presented by James Riley. Riley reported that MES has partnered with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to receive curriculum materials, guest speakers, career education opportunities, and bicycle grants.
In other business, board members approved the Apple lease agreement for student iPads, a purchase service contract for Chad Brinkley, a carpet bid from Glenwood Flooring, and a quote from GymMasters to refinish the gym floor.
The next regular meeting of the South Pike County School Board is scheduled for June 16.
