Howard Memorial Hospital Board Receives Clean Audit Report, Hears Updates from CEO Stacy Harberson

Recently, the Howard Memorial Hospital Board of Directors met for their regular monthly meeting, where board members received updates on the hospital’s financial standing, operational statistics, and administrative leadership.

During the meeting, Garret McSpadden of Welch, Couch and Company presented an overview of the hospital’s audit report, reviewing financial statements and highlighting key points from the audit process. Following the presentation, McSpadden informed the board that the audit report was clean with no issues reported.

Chief Financial Officer Bill Craig also presented the financial report for April 2026. According to Craig, hospital cash receipts for the month totaled $2,780,261, surpassing the hospital’s monthly cash collection goal of $2.2 million.

Craig reported that sales tax revenues for April totaled $27,243. He also noted that collectible revenue from patient services came in $104,815 above budget projections.

Operational numbers also exceeded expectations in several areas. Emergency Department visits reached 757 for the month, which was 82 visits above budget. Outpatient visits totaled 2,695 in April, while surgery cases reached 130, surpassing the budgeted total of 115 cases.

CEO Stacy Harberson also addressed the board, providing an update from her monthly report. We had the opportunity to speak with Harberson yesterday about the topics she shared with board members.

Harberson stated that the hospital was also able to offer two scholarships to area high school seniors.

Harberson is currently in Minneapolis preparing to participate in the American Hospital Association Rural Health Services Committee meeting and discussed how the experience will benefit the hospital and community.

Harberson also shared another announcement involving her next professional journey.
