Texarkana Man Arrested Following Reported Gun Threats in Prescott

PRESCOTT — A 24-year-old Texarkana man was arrested after authorities responded to reports of an armed individual allegedly threatening residents at a Prescott apartment complex.
According to the affidavit, officers were dispatched to Hale Avenue on May 10 after receiving a 911 call regarding a man reportedly displaying a firearm and threatening tenants before fleeing on foot.
Upon arriving in the area, deputies located the suspect, identified as Jadarian Newton of Texarkana. Authorities reported that Newton was ordered multiple times to show his hands and get on the ground but allegedly failed to comply with commands. Officers subsequently detained him.
During the arrest, law enforcement officers reportedly recovered a loaded firearm from a brown backpack. Authorities stated the weapon had a round chambered and was accompanied by a large quantity of ammunition. Officers also reported finding approximately one ounce of suspected marijuana inside the backpack.
According to the report, Newton resisted while being placed into a patrol vehicle but was ultimately secured and transported to the Nevada County Detention Facility.
Authorities also reported that while one officer was transporting Newton to jail, another individual allegedly interfered with law enforcement activities. After reportedly refusing multiple commands to leave the area, that individual was taken into custody and transported to the detention facility.
Investigators later interviewed witnesses at the scene, who told authorities that Newton had arrived in a gray Dodge Charger before allegedly displaying a firearm in the presence of several juveniles. Witnesses reported that he waved the weapon and made statements regarding whether the firearm was real before crossing the street and continuing to display it while looking for a female individual.
Newton was charged with simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, resisting arrest, second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, aggravated assault, and committing a terroristic act. The incident remains under investigation.
