Unofficial Election Results for Howard and Pike Counties Reflect Strong Support for Incumbents and Key Issues
Howards and Pike Counties, Arkansas – The unofficial results of the 2024 elections for Howard and Pike Counties indicate a strong showing for Republican candidates, with significant voter approval for key issues in both counties. Here are the highlights from the recent election:
Howard County Results
In Howard County, voters backed incumbent Republican candidates across the board. Donald Trump received 3,246 votes for U.S. President, while Bruce Westerman, the Republican incumbent for U.S. Congress, garnered 3,278 votes.
In the state legislative races, Republican Jimmy Hickey Jr. triumphed in State Senate District 04 with 3,341 votes. In State Representative District 87, Republican DeAnn Vaught won with a relatively small but decisive 396 votes. In the race for State Representative District 88, incumbent Republican Dolly Henley secured a comfortable 1,991 votes.
Two key issues on the ballot also saw strong support. Issue No. 1, which was widely supported, passed with 3,839 votes, representing 89.34% approval. Issue No. 2 was approved by 2,391 voters, or 55.21%, indicating a more mixed but still favorable opinion among voters.
Pike County Results
Pike County saw a mix of local elections and broader political races, with strong backing for several key Republican candidates. For U.S. President, Donald Trump garnered 3,745 votes. Bruce Westerman, also in the Republican column for U.S. Congress District 04, received 3,741 votes. Republican candidates for state office also performed well, with Steve Crowell securing 1,809 votes for State Senate District 03, Terry Rice gaining 2,142 votes for State Senate District 5, and Justin Gonzales with 3,948 votes for State Representative District 89.
On the local front, there were tight races in several city council elections. In the City of Delight, independent candidates Ty Sherrod and Brandi “Rowton” Martin won positions as Aldermen for positions 2 and 3, receiving 58 and 55 votes, respectively. In Glenwood, Jimmy Clark, also an independent, was elected Alderman for the North Ward with 351 votes.
In Murfreesboro, Lewis Gills won the election for Alderman South Ward Position 1 with 275 votes.
The two ballot issues in Pike County mirrored the support seen in Howard County. Issue No. 1 passed overwhelmingly with 3,799 votes, while Issue No. 2 was approved by 2,532 voters.
