New Communication Boards at Nashville City Park Aim to Foster Inclusivity
In an effort to make public spaces more accessible to all, the Howard Memorial Hospital Pediatric Therapy Center has partnered with Nashville City Park to introduce communication boards throughout the park. The boards are designed to help children and adults with speech and communication difficulties express themselves while enjoying the park.
On Wednesday, we had the opportunity to speak with Lorenn Haskins and Skylar Baker from the Pediatric Therapy Center about this exciting new initiative, which aims to increase accessibility for people of all abilities.
Baker shared that in addition to the new communication boards, the center has other upcoming events that will further engage the community.
Lorenn Haskins, who has been with the Pediatric Therapy Center for two years, talked about her journey from working PRN (as needed) to becoming a full-time therapist. She explained how the center tailors its strategies to help children improve their communication and developmental skills.
The Howard Memorial Hospital Pediatric Therapy Center provides a specialized room for therapy sessions, which Haskins and Baker explained is designed to create a positive, welcoming space for children to feel comfortable as they work on their communication skills.
The Howard Memorial Hospital Pediatric Therapy Center is located at 1315 South 4th Street in Nashville. For more information about the center’s programs or upcoming events, you can call 870-845-8059.
With these new communication boards at Nashville City Park, along with the center’s other ongoing initiatives, the community is taking important steps toward ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy and engage with public spaces. Stay tuned for more updates from the Pediatric Therapy Center in the coming weeks.
