Local Veterans Honored at Annual Veterans Day Ceremony in Howard County

Veterans from around the area gathered yesterday at the monument in front of the Howard County Courthouse to observe the Annual Veterans Day program. The ceremony paid tribute to the men and women who have served in the U.S. military, with a special focus on local veterans and their contributions.

Elizabeth Wilson Overton, Chapter Regent for the Mine Creek-Paraclifta Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, spoke during the ceremony, sharing a personal tribute to her father, Ramon Wilson, and his service to the country. Overton also took the opportunity to highlight the achievements of T Lynn Cox, a local veteran who was recognized for her outstanding military service.

T Lynn Cox enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 22 in 1988. She completed her basic and advanced individual training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Cox was the only soldier in her group to be awarded an Advanced Rank and placed in the Fast Track Class due to her exceptional performance, ranking among the top 10 of over 70 soldiers in her class.

During her career, Cox earned numerous awards, including the Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, among others.

As part of the Veterans Day ceremony, Cox took a moment to reflect on the significance of being recognized for her service.

Cox also offered a special message for the youth in the local community, encouraging them to strive for greatness and honor the values of hard work, service, and patriotism.

The ceremony concluded with a heartfelt tribute to all veterans, recognizing their sacrifices and service to the nation. The local Veterans Day event served as a reminder of the importance of remembering and honoring those who have fought to protect the freedoms enjoyed by all Americans.
