Glenwood Receives Nearly $500,000 Grant for Sewer Plant Upgrades

The City of Glenwood is moving forward with improvements to their wastewater treatment system after securing a grant of nearly $500,000.

Mayor Billy Plyler met Tuesday with Arkansas Economic Development Commission Grants Manager Matthew Smith to review the project before signing the grant paperwork.

The funding will be used to upgrade the city’s sewer treatment plant by installing an ultraviolet, or UV, disinfection system. The new system will replace chlorine as the method of disinfecting wastewater, reducing the amount of chemicals and waste eventually discharged into the Caddo River.

City officials say the project is expected to improve the treatment process while providing long-term environmental benefits for the community.
