Nashville School Board Approves Personnel, Financial Items and Track Project

The Nashville School District Board of Education met in regular session Monday evening, taking action on board leadership, personnel matters and several financial items.

Board members voted to continue using the traditional seniority system to select officers for the upcoming year. Beginning with the August meeting, David Hilliard will serve as board president, Nick Britt will serve as vice president and Tem Gunter will serve as secretary. The remaining members will continue serving as board members.

The board accepted the resignations of Paula Alvarez as an ESL aide, Bradley Wilbanks as an elementary custodian and Madeline Rogers as a special education aide.

Board members also approved the hiring of Spencer Green as the district’s new high school band director. Green officially began his duties on July 14. The board also approved the hiring of Nathaniel Staggers as a high school custodian, Shy Swift as a primary school custodian and Dalton Rogers as an elementary custodian.

During his report, Superintendent Doug Graham told the board the district has completed approximately 92 percent of its annual budget and currently has an operating balance of $5,590,179 as of June 30. The board also approved payment of the district’s bills as recommended.

Board members approved the transfer of $1,531,395 from Fund 2001 to the district’s building fund. They also approved the district’s retired fixed assets list totaling $107,448 and approved a change order with SprintTurf to add an all-weather track at a cost of $191,668.

Graham also updated the board on the timeline for completion of the new project.

The board adjourned after completing its regular monthly agenda.
