Murfreesboro Races Highlight Pike County Municipal Election Ballot

Pike County Clerk Randee Edwards has released the list of candidates who filed for municipal offices that will appear on the November General Election ballot.

Only two races in Pike County will be contested, and both are in the City of Murfreesboro.

The race for mayor will feature candidates Jack Bonds and Mary Jean Barbre. Three candidates — Patrick May, Doris Scoggins and Angie Strawn — have filed for West Ward, Position 1.

The remaining Murfreesboro offices are uncontested. Mark Barnes has filed for North Ward, Position 1, while Joan Davis Hooper has filed for North Ward, Position 2. Lewis Gills has filed for South Ward, Position 1, and Jane Fugitt for South Ward, Position 2. James Cody Bachmann is the lone candidate for West Ward, Position 2.

In Glenwood, William Plyler is the only candidate for mayor, and Johnny Cox has filed for North Ward, Position 2.

In Delight, Lee Gatliff is unopposed for mayor, while Dana Hightower is the sole candidate for recorder/treasurer. Rhonda Abbott has filed for Position 1, Ty Sherrod for Position 2, Brandi Rowton for Position 3, Ronnie Cox for Position 4 and Chris Goodson for Position 5.

In Daisy, Lisa Cogburn is unopposed for mayor, and Rebecca Frazier is the only candidate for recorder/treasurer. Amanda Huggins has filed for Position 2, Scotty Frazier for Position 3 and Nicholas Stant for Position 4.

No candidates filed for any municipal office in the Town of Antoine.

Pike County officials have confirmed that the petition effort for the county’s local option (wet/dry) initiative will not move forward.

According to official notice received, the petition failed to gather enough valid signatures to meet the statutory requirements necessary for placement on the upcoming General Election ballot.

As a result, the measure will not be considered by voters in this election cycle.
