Howard County Farm Bureau Celebrates Agriculture, Honors Farm Family of the Year, Welcomes Coach Sam Pittman
The Howard County Farm Bureau welcomed members and guests Tuesday, August 11, for its Annual Dinner, an evening dedicated to celebrating agriculture, recognizing outstanding farm families, and looking ahead to the future of farming in Howard County.
The evening began with a meal catered by Hickory House before Howard County Farm Bureau President Brent Talley welcomed attendees and reflected on the changing seasons of both life and agriculture. In his remarks, Talley noted that while agriculture continues to evolve through new technology, changing markets, and emerging opportunities, the mission of Farm Bureau remains steadfast—serving as the voice of agriculture and advocating for farm families across Arkansas.
Using the theme, “Taking to the Field for Another Season,” Talley encouraged those in attendance to embrace the opportunities and challenges ahead.
“Each season brings change,” Talley said. “Whether it’s on the farm, in our families, or in our communities, we have an opportunity to learn from the victories, grow through the challenges, and prepare for the work that lies ahead. Farm Bureau continues to stand beside our farm families by developing policy and advocating for agriculture at both the state and national levels.”
A highlight of the evening was the recognition of Mickey and Candie Ford of Umpire as the 2026 Howard County Farm Family of the Year. The Ford family was honored for its commitment to agriculture, stewardship of the land, and leadership within the farming community.
Following the Farm Family recognition, Howard County Farm Bureau Agency Manager Wayne Kesterson provided an update on the organization’s activities before introducing the evening’s keynote speaker, former Arkansas Razorback Head Football Coach Sam Pittman.
Coach Pittman shared memorable stories from his years of coaching, emphasizing leadership, teamwork, perseverance, and faith. His humor and genuine personality connected with the audience as he spent time visiting with those in attendance following his remarks.
Earlier in the day, Coach Pittman also visited with the Nashville High School football team, encouraging student-athletes as they prepare for the upcoming football season.
The annual dinner served as a celebration of Howard County agriculture while reminding members that, like every new farming season, success comes through preparation, dedication, and working together. As Farm Bureau members prepare for another year of serving agriculture, the organization remains committed to advocating for Arkansas farmers and ranchers while strengthening the communities they call home.
