Suspect Facing Additional Charges After Child Dies From Injuries

The Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a four-year-old child who died Sunday after suffering serious injuries in an incident that led to the arrest of a 33-year-old Emmet man.

Hempstead County Investigators were notified by Arkansas Children’s Hospital at approximately 8:50 Sunday morning that the child had succumbed to her injuries.

James Ivey, 33, of Emmet, was arrested by Hempstead County Investigators and is facing charges of Capital Rape, Domestic Battering in the First Degree, Unlawful Female Mutilation of a Minor, and Terroristic Threatening in the First Degree.

Ivey remains in custody at the Hempstead County Detention Center.

He appeared before Circuit Judge Joe Short on Friday, where bond was set at two million dollars.

The Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office called the case heartbreaking and deeply disturbing and extended its condolences to the child’s family and loved ones.

The investigation remains ongoing.
