Scrappers Snap 20-Game Skid Against Magnolia in 50-28 Victory
The Nashville Scrappers made history Friday night, snapping a 20-game losing streak against the Magnolia Panthers with a convincing 50-28 victory.
Nashville took advantage of five Magnolia turnovers, including a fumble on the opening kickoff. Jacoby Hopson scored from eight yards out to give the Scrappers an early 7-0 lead.
After another Magnolia fumble, sophomore Bo Dean scooped up the loose ball and returned it for a touchdown, putting Nashville ahead 14-0 with 3:49 remaining in the first quarter.
Junior Blake Moody recovered another Magnolia fumble moments later, and Hopson added his second touchdown of the quarter on a pass from DJ Jefferson. Magnolia scored late in the quarter, cutting Nashville’s lead to 21-8.
The Scrappers added to their advantage in the second quarter when sophomore Jakhari Starr broke loose for a 59-yard touchdown run.
With 57 seconds remaining in the first half, play was stopped for a 40-minute weather delay. When the teams returned, Starr scored on a one-yard run, his second touchdown of the night, to make it 36-8. Magnolia answered with a kickoff return for a touchdown, sending the game to halftime with Nashville leading 36-16.
Starr scored again in the third quarter, this time on a 17-yard run, giving Nashville a 43-16 advantage. Magnolia responded with a touchdown to cut the lead to 43-22 entering the final quarter.
Hopson completed his big night with his third touchdown of the game, scoring on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter. Magnolia added one final touchdown, but the Scrappers held on for the 50-28 win.
During the Coaches Show, Nashville head coach Brad Chesshir talked about how proud he was of his team.
Chesshir also provided the Scrappers’ offensive statistics.
He then discussed Nashville’s defensive statistics.
Chesshir closed the segment by talking about where Magnolia was able to hurt the Scrappers.
The Scrappers will look to keep their perfect record intact as they continue their season this week.
