Mineral Springs Council Discusses Generator Project, Police Department Needs

The Mineral Springs City Council met Monday for its regular monthly meeting, where members heard updates on the city’s generator project and several matters involving the Mineral Springs Police Department.

Andy Franks of A.L. Franks Engineering addressed the council regarding the generator project. Franks presented bids from several companies that were received on August 19.

Following further discussion, a motion was made by Charles Deloney and seconded by James Jean to approve the bid from Integrity Electrical in the amount of $38,700. The motion was approved by the council.

The council also heard from Police Chief Francisco Mercado, who made several announcements during his department report.

Mercado also took time to discuss an updated report-writing system being used by local police departments in surrounding areas. He said the Mineral Springs Police Department hopes to upgrade to the system as well.

Following further discussion, the council decided to hold off on purchasing the report-writing system until the beginning of 2027. However, if the police department is awarded a grant that covers the cost of the system, the city would not have to include the purchase in its future budget.

The council also approved several motions during the meeting. One motion authorized the purchase of a new motor for the police department’s 2015 Dodge Charger at a cost of $8,700.

Council members also approved an increase to the heavy equipment fund, raising the amount from $500 to $800.

The council will address additional city business during its next regularly scheduled meeting.
