Developing Howard County Board Reviews Economic Development Projects and Upcoming Initiatives

The Developing Howard County board met last week, with Executive Director Vanessa Weeks providing updates on several economic development initiatives and upcoming projects.

Weeks reported that her office has received several requests for information concerning the Okay site and the Oxbody site.

She also told the board that a recent trip to Mexico City was a great experience and provided her and Veronica Ozura with an opportunity to make several valuable contacts. Weeks said the two plan to return to Mexico City later this year, along with Dana Pondexter of the Arkansas Department of Economic Development.

Weeks also announced that Developing Howard County’s online media sites recently received two awards. The organization was recognized with an award for Best Regional Website and received a gold medal for its municipal website.

The board also reviewed and approved the proposed 2027 budget.

Weeks reported that she is applying for a Site Development Grant, with the funds to be used to make improvements to the Tyson site that Tyson plans to donate to Developing Howard County. The property is located off Mission Drive in Nashville.

The board also discussed the possibility of providing a crew car at the Nashville Airport. The matter was tabled until additional research can be conducted to determine which entity would be responsible for the vehicle’s upkeep, maintenance and insurance.

Board member Charles Smith announced that Holly Rucker is organizing a community cleanup effort scheduled for Saturday, October 3. Volunteers will meet at Nashville City Park at 8 a.m.

Volunteer hours will be available for students participating in the cleanup. Local businesses, organizations, groups and churches are also being encouraged to take part in the effort.
