Pike County Quorum Court Approves Road Construction, Dumpster Ordinances

The Pike County Quorum Court approved several ordinances and made committee appointments during its regular monthly meeting.

Justice Paul Baker made a motion to adopt the appropriation ordinance as read, with Justice Kip Holbrook seconding. The motion passed unanimously, 6-0.

Judge Eddie Howard then presented Ordinance 2026-12, which establishes requirements for individuals or entities conducting construction on county roads. The ordinance requires permits for construction, sets requirements for utility placement and safety signage, and addresses other related matters.

Following discussion, the court voted 6-0 to introduce and adopt the ordinance after suspending the second and third readings.

The court also considered Ordinance 2026-13, authorizing the Pike County Sanitation Department to provide dumpster rental and solid waste collection services to county residents. The ordinance establishes fees and service requirements and allows county equipment and vehicles to be used for delivery, pickup and transportation of rented dumpsters.

Officials discussed the possibility of increasing dumpster rental costs to help cover overhead expenses. The issue will be addressed further during the budget process. The ordinance was introduced and adopted by unanimous 6-0 votes after the second and third readings were suspended.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Judge Howard appointed members to serve on the Budget and Handbook committees.

Justice John Plyler, Justice Jerry Fendley, Justice Richard Mohlenhoff and Justice Robbie Crocker were appointed to the Budget Committee. Justice Plyler, Justice Seth Kirkham, Justice Mohlenhoff and Justice Robbie Crocker were appointed to the Handbook Committee.
