Scrappers Rally Past Badgers 42-22 in Conference Opener
Friday night on the Hill, the Nashville Scrappers opened conference play against the Arkadelphia Badgers, battling back from an early deficit to earn a 42-22 victory.
The Badgers got on the scoreboard first in the opening quarter, scoring a touchdown and successfully converting the two-point attempt to take an 8-0 lead. Arkadelphia would find the end zone again, adding the extra point to extend its lead to 15-0.
With less than a minute remaining in the first quarter, Nashville finally got on the board when quarterback DJ Jefferson scored a touchdown.
The Scrappers went for the extra point, and the kick was good, cutting the deficit to 15-7.
Nashville continued its comeback in the second quarter when Jacoby Hopson scored a touchdown for the Scrappers.
The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, but Nashville would soon capitalize on a safety to gain an extra point, tying the game at 15-15.
Before halftime, the Scrappers found the end zone once more, taking a 21-15 lead into the locker room.
Nashville carried that momentum into the third quarter. Bryce Perrin scored a touchdown for the Scrappers.
The extra point was good, extending Nashville’s lead to 28-15.
The Scrappers’ defense also came up with a big play in the third quarter when Bo Dean intercepted a pass, giving Nashville possession and another opportunity to score.
DJ Jefferson would take advantage of the opportunity, scoring on a quarterback sneak to push the Scrappers’ lead to 34-15.
The extra point was good, making it 35-15 with just 53 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Arkadelphia answered with a touchdown late in the third quarter and added the extra point, cutting Nashville’s lead to 35-22 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Jakhari Starr scored the final touchdown of the night for the Scrappers. The extra point was good, giving Nashville a 42-22 victory.
With the win, the Scrappers improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Nashville will now turn its attention to their next opponent, the Fountain Lake Cobras.
