South Pike County Schools Celebrate Apple Honors, Approve Budget

The South Pike County School Board covered property, academics, athletics and financial matters during their regular monthly meeting.

Superintendent Tanya Wilcher reported that the district had purchased two houses adjacent to school property. Paperwork for the land sale and property purchases is being handled by Jackson Title Co.

Both South Pike County schools were named Apple Distinguished Schools for the 2026-2029 cycle. Chad Brinkley presented the official notification.

Principal James Riley presented the MES Academic Report, recognizing Amanda Buck as Outstanding Educator and sixth-grader Jaili Lamb as Outstanding Student. He also shared interim testing and K-3 screener data. The school’s fourth annual Fun Run fundraiser is underway, with the event scheduled for Oct. 26.

The board approved the purchase of a Silverado 1500 Work Truck for $33,929, a resolution with JBH & Co., and the proposed 2026-27 budget. Each motion passed unanimously, 5-0.

Board members were also reminded of upcoming training opportunities, with members required to complete six hours of training annually and new members required to complete nine hours.
