Nashville Council Approves Donation of Fire Equipment to County Volunteer Departments
During its monthly meeting Monday, the Nashville City Council approved Fire Chief Justin Thornton’s request to donate a piece of equipment to the county’s volunteer fire departments.
Thornton explained the equipment is a trailer that would allow volunteer departments to refill older self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) packs at the scene of a fire, if needed.
He said the Nashville Fire Department has been purchasing new SCBA packs that are not compatible with the equipment. The department has replaced approximately two to three SCBA packs each year since 2023.
Aldermen voted to approve the donation of the equipment to the county volunteer fire departments.
New Public Works Director Jonathon Roquet introduced himself to those in attendance and told the council he is currently working to become familiar with the members of the Street and Water departments, as well as their procedures and daily operations.
Mayor Larry Dunaway provided an update on several city projects. He reported that the pump should be set this week and that the building at the pump station has been constructed. Equipment for the new clarifier is also being delivered.
Dunaway said the sidewalk project should go out for bid in February. He also said the city expects to begin refilling the water tower on 7th Street in approximately four weeks.
Financial Director Kimberly Green reported the city paid $660,219.13 for the dredging project at Lake Nichols. The city also paid $26,458.84 to Coburn Supply Company for installation of a new water line for the truck wash on Highway 27 South.
Green said $19,700 was transferred to the Street Department for operating expenses, while $7,600 was transferred to the Animal Control Department for operating expenses.
Green also reported the city received $76,170 from the collection of the 1 percent sales tax in August. However, she said August sales tax revenue was $1,670 less than the amount collected in August 2025.
