Howard County Sales Tax Revenue Increases in August

During Monday morning’s regular meeting of the Howard County Quorum Court, County Treasurer Sherri Mixon reported an increase in sales tax revenue for August, with the county receiving approximately $107,000. Mixon also reported that Howard Memorial Hospital and Developing Howard County each received $13,468.

Mixon informed the justices of the peace (JPs) that she had previously provided incorrect information regarding the amount her office could charge for printing costs associated with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. She also noted that a request submitted last month by Jessica Steel Gunter had not yet been picked up.

The Quorum Court approved two ordinances amending the county’s 2026 budget.

Ordinance 2026-12 increased the Howard County Office of Emergency Management’s (OEM) Other Miscellaneous budget by $7,300. The funds were transferred from the contingency funds for MACC I. The ordinance also increased the Howard County Circuit Court Judge’s Janitorial Supplies budget by $147.01, using funds from a reimbursement check received from Quill.

Ordinance 2026-13 increased the Howard County Road Department’s asphalt budget by $500,000. The funds were transferred from the General Fund to support asphalt projects throughout Howard County.

County Judge Brent Pinkerton explained that the $500,000 allocation came from sales tax revenue the county began receiving in May.
