Celebrating Occupational Therapy Month: Local Experts Share Their Passion
April is National Occupational Therapy Month, a time to recognize the important work that occupational therapists do to help people of all ages live fuller, more independent lives.
Recently, KMTB and KNAS sat down with Occupational Therapist Joni McGhee and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Rachel Hockaday to learn more about the profession and the impact it has on the community.
In part one of our interview, Hockaday—who primarily works with pediatric patients—explained what occupational therapy is and shared why the work is so meaningful to her.
McGhee, who brings 30 years of experience to the field, reflected on what inspired her to become an occupational therapist.
She also described the range of services they provide and shared more about what Howard Memorial Hospital offers in terms of occupational therapy care.
Stay tuned for part two of our interview, where we’ll dive deeper into the day-to-day work of occupational therapy and how it continues to evolve to meet patients’ needs.
