Repeat Offender Arrested for Shoplifting at Hope Grocery Store

A local man was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with a shoplifting incident at a grocery store on East 3rd Street in Hope.

At approximately 8:40 a.m. on April 1, Officer Luke Sorensen responded to a call at Piggly Wiggly regarding a reported theft. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the store manager, who reported witnessing a male suspect conceal approximately $400 worth of steaks in his clothing before fleeing the store in a white vehicle.

Around 9:30 a.m., Corporal Charlie Featherston located and arrested the suspect 55 year old Dawson Charles Jackson in the 800 block of North Hervey Street. Jackson was taken into custody on a charge of Theft of Property.

Further investigation by Detective Green revealed that the individual has a lengthy criminal history, including 30 prior theft convictions over the past decade in Hempstead County.
