Gas Pump Explosion at Murphy USA in Nashville Sparks Emergency Response

A gas pump explosion at Murphy USA in Nashville triggered an emergency response Tuesday morning after a pickup truck collided with a fuel dispenser, sparking a fire.
According to the Nashville Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m., when 85-year-old Joe Scoggins of Nashville accidentally drove his Dodge Dakota pickup into a gas pump on the north end of the station.
According to the Nashville Police Department, Scoggins had just finished refueling and was attempting to back up to clean his windows. He reportedly reversed too far, nearly reaching the air pump area, then shifted into drive. He was unable to stop the vehicle before it struck the gas pump.
Responding officers and firefighters quickly blocked off the north entrance to contain the scene. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found the vehicle and pump on fire.
A witness at the scene reported seeing the truck begin to roll backward with the driver still holding onto the steering wheel. The vehicle then moved forward rapidly, colliding with the fuel pump. The witness attempted to intervene but was unable to stop the vehicle before impact. Upon noticing gasoline on the ground, both the driver and witness moved away from the area for safety.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
The incident remains under investigation.
