New Law Banning Student Device Use Takes Effect August 1, 2025

Local school districts are reminding families about a new state law that will go into effect on August 1, 2025, restricting students from using personal electronic devices during school hours.

Under the new law, students will be prohibited from using cell phones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, and other personal electronic devices while on school property during the instructional day. The legislation is aimed at reducing classroom distractions and helping students stay focused on learning.

The law was approved by the Arkansas Legislature on February 18 and officially signed into law on February 20.

District leaders emphasize that the change is intended to create a better learning environment and minimize distractions that have become increasingly common in classrooms.

More details and guidelines from individual districts are expected to be released closer to the start of the new school year.
