Nashville City Council Discusses Solar Panel Display

Approximately half of Tuesday’s three hour Nashville city council meeting was spent on a presentation and discussion regarding the city constructing a solar panel display. Original plans included using the solar generation to help save money at the water and sewer plants along with covering the costs of electricity for street lights However, since those initial discussions took place, changes have been made on the state level that prohibits those areas from being included in the energy efficiency plans, making the solar panels less attractive to the city.

Another problem the city is facing with the plan is that they don’t own land that’s a suitable location for the solar display. Several pieces of property have been considered and the one being recommended is located near the electric substation off Highway 27 South. The property is owned by Mayor Billy Ray Jones.

Council members will consider the proposal and are expected to vote on it next month.
