Mineral Springs Resident Arrested After Vehicle Pursuit
A Mineral Springs man is likely facing several felony charges following a vehicle pursuit Sunday night.
Authorities say 29 year old Michael Hill, Jr. was the driver of an S.U.V. that Mineral Springs Police Chief Jeff Witherspoon attempted to stop for traveling at a high rate of speed. The pursuit ended when the vehicle stopped at a trailer park off North Street. Authorities say as Chief Witherspoon approached the vehicle, Hill exited the S.UV. and the police chief noticed Hill had blood on both hands. Reports say Hill told the officer that he had cut himself. As the police chief attempted to arrest Hill for fleeing, reports say Hill began resisting and struck Chief Witherspoon in the head and was able to flee on foot but was apprehended by the chief and other officers who had responded to the scene.
Hill was transported to the hospital by officers and later taken to the Howard County Jail.
While searching the S.U.V., police said they recovered an AR-15 rifle containing two loaded 30 round magazines taped together in the weapon. A loaded .40 caliber handgun was recovered in the rear seat floorboard according to police and they say digital scales, suspected marijuana and methamphetamines along with various drug paraphernalia were also recovered.
Hill is expected to be charged with felony counts that include Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Possession of a Controlled Substance with Purpose to Deliver.
