Nashville School District and Food Pantry Program at Rotary
Nashville School District Superintendent Doug Graham addressed the Nashville Rotary club at their weekly meeting on Wednesday. Graham presented information on enrollment and facilities. He said that this is the first year in a long time that the district is not working on a major construction project. During the past 14 years, the Nashville School District has spent $22 million on capital improvements without a tax increase.
In demographics, the district has a growing Hispanic population, at twenty three percent. There are currently 1,920 students enrolled at Nashville schools. Eighty students are school choice and another eighty students are home school status. Superintendent Graham talked about possibly offering those students curriculum in the future.
Crystal Evans, Andrea Pinegar, and Shawn Dale also shared information about the food pantry program. See our article on the recent Tyson Foods donation for more information. Evans reported that 125 students have been identified as food insecure. It costs $125 to sponsor a student, which includes food each week. Many churches, businesses, and individuals have helped donate funds to help these students. Donations are still welcome.
