Absentee ballot requests up from 2016
Howard County Clerk Keri Teague is reporting more than 175 Howard County voters have submitted requests for absentee ballots for the November election. By comparison, Teague said there were approximately 120 absentee ballot requests made for the the last presidential election in 2016. Teague advises county residents to be cautious about providing personal information on mailed documents…unless you know for sure that it is legitimate. Howard County residents can contact the clerk’s office if they have any questions regarding the legitimacy of election related documents received in the mail. When residents receive their absentee ballots, they will come completely postage paid.
In Pike County, Clerk Randee Reid said the number of absentee ballot requests this year is not substantially higher than the 2016 election. So far, 121 absentee ballot requests have been made by Pike County citizens. In 2016, that number was 113. Reid said she has received some concerns from citizens about the mail service returning a cast ballot in a timely manner. Pike County residents will be able bring their ballots back to the clerk’s office in Murfreesboro if they have concerns about mailing them.
October 5th is the deadline to register to vote in November.
