Pike County inmate have altercation with Pike County Deputies

On Monday, December 11, 41-year-old Amy Nicole Ray of Malvern was officially charged with two counts of 2nd degree battery and one count of 3rd degree battery following an incident at the Pike County jail on November 30th.

According to the affidavit, Ray attacked another inmate while she was lying on her bed. When detention deputy Gail Oneal responded to the incident, Ray struck Oneal in the face. As Oneal was walking toward to exit door, Ray struck Oneal a second time.

Oneal was assisted by other female inmates in subduing Ray, until detention deputy Eric Hartley and dispatcher Racheal Sterling came into the pod to restrain Ray.

Ray continued to resist by attempting to bite, kick, and headbutt the deputies. She was eventually placed in the restraint chair and placed in a lockdown cell.

Deputy Oneal and Dispatcher Sterling had to be transported to the Howard Memorial Hospital for their injuries they suffered during the altercation.
