Area teams advance to regional basketball tournaments

Nashville lost both basketball games played Saturday afternoon at Scrapper Arena. In the 7-4A Girls District championship, the Scrapperettes held a 5 point halftime lead over Mena, but were outscored by a dozen points in the third period. The Lady Cats went on to win the game, 45 to 39.
Earlier in the afternoon, the Scrappers held a lead for most of the game against Hope, but the Bobcats were able to escape with a 46 to 42 victory. The loss means the Scrappers will open the regional tournament Wednesday night at Star City against Magnolia, which is the two time defending 4A state champion.
In the girls bracket, the Scrapperettes will be the number two seed from 7-4A, and will face Camden Fairview Thursday afternoon.
In the 2A regional this week at Caddo Hills, the Dierks Outlaws are the number one seed after winning their conference tournament Saturday evening. They are scheduled to play Woodlawn Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock, while in the girls bracket of that tournament, Murfreesboro’s girls are also a number one seed. They will play Spring Hill Wednesday afternoon at four o’clock.
