Arkansas Sales Tax Holiday Set for August 2–3

Arkansas shoppers can enjoy big savings during the upcoming Sales Tax Holiday set for Saturday and Sunday, August 2–3.
During the two-day event, no sales tax will be charged on a wide range of back-to-school and personal items, including:
Clothing priced under $100 per item
Accessories under $50, like handbags, watches, and sunglasses
School supplies including art materials, pens, and notebooks
Electronics, such as laptops, tablets, printers, calculators, and cell phones
Even cosmetics and personal care products, like shampoo, nail polish, and perfume, are tax-exempt. However, sports gear, video games, and TVs do not qualify.
The tax exemption applies to each individual item, not the total purchase price. That means multiple qualifying items can be purchased without triggering sales tax, as long as each item stays under the price threshold.
The Arkansas Department of Finance estimates families could save over $2.6 million this year, especially on computers and electronics added under Act 944 of 2021.
All retailers in the state are required to participate, and the exemption includes state, city, and county sales taxes.
Many consider the weekend the official “Back to School” shopping holiday, making it a great time to stock up for the year ahead.
