Ashdown man arrested for controlled substance

A man from Ashdown, driven by desperation to reach his workplace, resorted to driving a go-cart on a U.S. highway and is now facing drug possession charges in Sevier County.

On July 15th, Sevier County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Highway 71’s 3000 block due to reports of a go-cart on the roadway. They found the vehicle broken down on the highway’s shoulder, near Rock Hill Road.

The deputies approached the driver, 22-year-old Alex James Allen from Ashdown, who explained he was using the go-cart to travel to his job in De Queen. It was then discovered that Allen, on parole for previous drug offenses, had a search waiver on record.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of a bag containing suspected marijuana and another with a substance thought to be cocaine. Allen confessed to buying the drugs at his place of employment.
Following these events, Allen was arrested for controlled substance possession and taken to Sevier County Jail.
