Howard County 4-H members, agents and parents participated in “4-H Day at the Capitol” recently. They joined over 600 youth from across the state to help turn the capitol rotunda green. “4-H Day at the Capitol” is an event which has been held the past three legislative sessions. This is a unique opportunity for 4-H youth to witness and learn about citizenship in action. While at the capitol, the youth visited with Senator Larry Teague and Representative Justin Gonzales. They also heard Governor Asa Hutchinson, Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin, and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge speak. While at the Capitol, the youth toured the building and grounds and sat in on a committee meeting.
The Arkansas 4-H Youth Development program is delivered by the Cooperative Extension Service, part of the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. It is the only youth development program affiliated with the state’s land grant university, the University of Arkansas. In 2018, more than 300,000 youth took part in a 4-H activity statewide. Sponsors for the day included: Arkansas Electric Cooperatives, Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation, The Poultry Federation, Farm Credit of Arkansas and the Arkansas Association of Counties.
