Hempstead County 4-Hers’ showed off their culinary skills this weekend during the Jonquil Festival at Historic Washington State Park. They competed for the chance to move on to the District BBQ competition. During this competition, the 4-Hers’ had to prepare and light their grills, and season and cook their chickens in the allotted 2 hour time limit.
First place went to Harlie Lockhart by a very narrow margin. Congratulations Harlie!
This was a very close competition. All contestants turned in very well cooked and flavorful BBQ Chicken.
Listed below are contestant placings, the top 5 who will proceed to district competition:
1st Place-Harlie Lockhart , 2nd Place-Sara Sweat, 3rd Place-Caelan Pearson, 4th Place-Anna Sweat and 5th Place-Lane Lockhart. Each contestant received a package of BBQ Utensils.
Trudy VanNorman was also there and cooking for the practice and fun of learning what it’s like to be in competition. Due to her age, she could not be considered a contestant but thoroughly enjoyed the event and received a cutting board.
