On March 27, 2019, UA Cossatot hosted a blood drive at its Lockesburg campus from 3:30 to 7:30 PM. LifeShare Blood Center was in charge of the blood drive assisting those who chose to give blood.
After giving blood, donors received a free t-shirt and a Powerball ticket from LifeShare as a reward for their donation. LifeShare employees at the blood drive also mentioned that there is a big need for people to give blood and that blood supplies are low throughout the region.
“Someone needs blood every two seconds, and there is no substitute for human blood,” said LifeShare Team Leader Tanesha Gulley. “A teaspoon of blood can save the life of a baby, and you can save three lives by donating a pint of blood.”
UA Cossatot Ashdown and Lockesburg Campus Director Barry Reed managed the blood drive and was pleased that it took place at the Lockesburg campus. “UA Cossatot has a great relationship with LifeShare Blood Services, and I am always happy to see them on our campuses for donation drives,” said Reed. “Hosting a donation drive at Lockesburg is wonderful because of its central location within the college’s service area. There are many in this area who drive through Lockesburg to and from work, which presents the opportunity to stop and donate life-saving blood on the commute. I am grateful for all the donors who took time out of their busy day to help save lives. This is another way that UA Cossatot can give back to our communities, and I am always excited for an opportunity to showcase our historic Lockesburg campus.”
