Pike County Cattlemen Meet

The April 2nd Pike County Cattlemen’s Association meeting and dinner included Beef Brisket and chicken quarters with sides and desserts. The Association thanks Southern Farm Bureau, by Jeff Jones (in absentia) and Sweeden Tractor Inc., represented by Glen Sweeden for sponsoring
the dinner.

As everyone was finishing their meal, President Jeremy Allmon introduced Mr. Sweeden, proprietor of Murfreesboro’s New Holland Dealership. He gave preventative maintenance advice including using only lubricants specified in your owner’s manual for your equipment, changing the fuel filter in conjunction with every oil change, and not using old diesel exhaust fluid that has crystals. He continued with safety issues that cause accidents and death when not observed.

Mr. Charles R. Looney from the Southwest Research and Extension Center presented a program on Simplifying Your Next Breeding Season through estrus synchronization and artificial insemination (AI). His slide show included the history of AI up to today’s advanced procedures and techniques. Information and opportunities for training is available through U of A Agricultural Extension Services.

County Extension Agent, Terrell Davis, advised participants of CES programs and activities. Information about involvement with the Pike County Cattlemen’s Association is available from Jeremy Allmon, 870.285.5475 or Stanley Rhodes, 870.245.7800.
