The Mineral Springs School Board met for an informational meeting this week. Board members discussing upcoming new laws and how they will affect the district. The meeting included questions about the district’s salary schedule and hourly wage employees. New legislation will establish a minimum salary schedule that must be followed by school districts in the state. Mineral Springs School District currently has a $34,127 base salary with almost $3,000 in insurance benefits and $2,500 for retention. A raise will be required in the following school year to bring the base salary total to $36,000. However, Mineral Springs is the only district in the area that pays full insurance benefits and provides a retention bonus.
The Arkansas Department of Education issued a memo late last year concerning the classified employee minimum hourly wage and how minimum wage raises would affect schools. Classified salaries will see the wage raised to $10 an hour in 2020 and $11 in 2021.
A Culinary K-12 representative also discussed the progress of the food service program. A company under consideration to provide custodial services, SG-360, also answered questions from the board.
