Counties Receive PILT Funding

More than 1,900 local governments around the country will receive $514.7 million in Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) funding for 2019. Approximately $7.4 million of those dollars will be dispersed among Arkansas counties by the U.S. Department of the Interior.

Howard County will receive $42,069, Pike County $75,471, and Hempstead County $14,387.

Payments in Lieu of Taxes are Federal payments to local governments that help offset losses in property taxes due to the existence of nontaxable Federal lands within their boundaries. The funding can help local cities and counties provide critical health, education, road maintenance, and emergency services to residents.
