Nashville City Council to look at cleaning up properties on Main Street

The Nashville City Council approved the condemnation of two properties at their monthly meeting this week. Council members voted to condemn residences at 1009 Martin Street and 1200 west Grumbles Street under the ordinance that specifies procedures for condemning dilapidated structures. Code Enforcement Officer David Riggs said that he looks for all other options before requesting the condemnation of a property. He is willing to work with property owners to get things cleaned up and will assist in any possible way. Riggs and Mayor Billy Ray Jones also talked about updating some of the city ordinances to assist in keeping Main Street presentable.

“I think we need to be aggressive on getting junk cleaned up. We have buildings on Main Street that are open windows and the floors/ceilings are gone.”

The mayor cited a couple of buildings that had fallen in, including a tree growing in one of those buildings.
