Hurricane Barry made a direct line for southwest Arkansas today, and Lake Greeson was right in the middle of the path. As a result, we experienced over 10 feet of elevation change in less than 12 hours and are still rising.
Affected campgrounds have been safely evacuated and are temporarily closed for at least the next week. Jim Wylie and the Dam Area campgrounds remain open because they are above flood levels. Upcoming camping and pavilion reservations during this period will be fully refunded to the closed areas.
The Bear Creek Cycle Trail has many dangerous flooded creek crossings. We are asking our visitors to stay off the trails until we have a chance to evaluate trail conditions.
Barricades have been placed in multiple areas around the lake. Please observe these closed signs. We will begin releasing flood water as soon as downstream rivers begin receding and hope to resume normal campground operations as soon as possible.
