Most of the Howard county roads and bridges damaged from last month’s extensive flash flooding have been repaired, at least on a temporary basis, according to County Judge Kevin Smith. A bridge on the Old Center Point Road is the only one to remain completely closed. The bidding process for repairing that bridge is underway. Judge Smith says a bridge on Jamison Road is only operating at one lane..but is open to traffic. Both of the bridges that need repair are in the Nashville area. County crews have also been working to replace a culvert on Muddy Fork Road..but that work is expected to be finished this week. Some repairs are also still being made on Shaw Road between Dierks & Newhope.
While the county waits to see what type of disaster declaration funding it will receive, Governor Asa Hutchinson’s office has released 150 thousand dollars to help with some of the initial repairs.
Concerning county owned building damage in Nashville, Judge Smith said he is waiting to hear from insurance regarding the District Court repairs. Sheriff Bryan McJunkins reported repairs are continuing in the administrative offices of the jail. Inmates were returned to the facility about ten days after the flood.
