A group of regional extension agents recently received a Search for Excellence award for their work with the Southwest Arkansas Cattlemen’s College. The Arkansas County Agricultural Agents Association (ACAAA) recognized 8 counties with the award which recognized the four month program that focused on forages, nutrition, genetics, and facilities. There were a total of 24 participants from 8 southwest Arkansas counties including Clark, Pike, Howard, Sevier, Little River, Nevada, Hempstead, and Miller.
The participants ranged from a retired beginner to large scale farmhands. Ages ranged from late 20s to mid 60s. Gender was above half female/male.
Pike County Extension Agent Terrell Davis says the Southwest Arkansas Cattlemen’s College helped participants gain a foundation built upon unbiased, research based principles. They were also able to create an industry network with area Cattlemen. The evaluations from the program indicated that all participants plan to implement practices learned. Davis said that knowledge increased in most areas for most participants.
