The Board of Visitors met at UA Cossatot’s Lockesburg campus to discuss and review recent and upcoming information. It was announced that 1,347 students enrolled in courses for the spring 2019 semester and of those students, 551 of them are concurrent high school students.
Employees of the college attended both the Little River and Sevier County chamber banquets. UA Cossatot was named Large Business of the Year at the Sevier County Banquet. The college also won the award for Best Business Themed Table.
Come Fall in Love with UA Cossatot is an annual event in February that invites high school juniors to come to visit the campuses. The college staff spends the day with area high schools to inform and educate these
potential students about UA Cossatot programs, paying for college, and resources UA Cossatot offers to its students. Almost 600 high school juniors from the area were in attendance.
Upcoming events were announced for the next couple of months. On April 26, 2019, UA Cossatot will be presenting the first Miss UA Cossatot scholarship pageant. The pageant will be an opportunity for current
and future UA Cossatot students to participate. The college will also be celebrating its annual Fiesta Fest on Saturday, May 4, 2019. This year’s event is being moved to Downtown De Queen.
The board also approved to add women’s basketball to the sports program. The board chose to move their basketball teams to play in the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). This decision will allow them to schedule enough teams to offer more opportunities for students, the college, and the community. This action will now be sent to the UA Board of Trustees for final approval.
The board also reviewed employee changes at UA Cossatot. In January and February, five employees were hired. Eda Lopez was hired as Administrative Specialist I – Assistant to Vice Chancellor of Academics,
Jimmy Washburn as SNAP and E&T Coordinator, Cindy Paetzel as an Institutional Services Assistant, Cindy Mashburn as an Institutional Services Assistant, and Ben Renfrow was hired as Marketing Coordinator.
